Volvo service in Meppel? Bullshit! On Friday, February 6, 2026, we decided to buy an XC70. A wonderful six-cylinder automatic, because gasoline is so cheap these days. We usually buy a car from the Volvo dealer, but the car we want now is for sale at a dealership. Before buying, we wanted to make an appointment with our regular Volvo dealer in Meppel for a possible pre-purchase inspection. They offer a one-hour inspection online for 95 euros, which we consider a reasonable price. We've been regular customers in Meppel for several years; previously, since 1990, we've always been with a different Volvo dealer, but now in Meppel due to a move. Anyway, we called and asked: when can we visit you? The answer: the end of February 2026... Excuse me? Yes, really. Hans, a great guy by the way, explained to me that there's a lot of pressure on the workshop staff. That's fine, but it's not my problem. It's a problem for the Volvo-Nieuwenhuijse Group. Pay your staff above the collective labor agreement standard, offer extra pay, work overtime, hire staff from colleagues, and so on. There are plenty of solutions; solve a problem. After some prodding, Hans sees another opening: February 17, 2026. No, that's not an option either. I can't ask a car dealer to look after a car for almost 14 days because the Volvo dealer doesn't have time for a pre-purchase inspection. Finally, Hans gives me an unsolicited tip: go to a different garage. But that's exactly what we don't want. We're quite brand and dealer loyal. At least, we were. We usually have at least two Volvos in our garages, and in our heyday, we had fourteen. Perhaps the term "brand fanatic" is more appropriate here. Never had any problems with a Volvo dealer. Now we do, and we can solve that problem easily. We no longer buy cars from a Volvo dealer, not even parts, and we forgo MOTs and maintenance services. Our refuge? A Volvo specialist, of which more and more have been appearing in recent years. They may not spell the word "service" entirely correctly there, but they do understand the concept of flexibility. The XC70? Yes, we bought it; the car will be delivered within five days and will have to live the rest of its life without any Volvo stamps in the service booklet.

Two stars deduction as they have left stains on the driver's seat leather. Putting covers over seats when servicing the interior is a MUST! The mechanics are not wearing the cleanest jumpers after all. The welcoming was also subpar. Needless to say will not visit again unless I am pressed by circumstances.
