January 2025 The advertisement for a car offered by CW Auto's reads: "Don't be fooled, this Renault Scenic offers everything you could want in a car." Upon arrival at CW Auto's, we see the car we've come for already waiting. We'd called and agreed to arrive within about an hour and a half. We enter the office/entrance of the company where three gentlemen are sitting drinking coffee. No one gives us a second glance, and nothing is said to us. We wait patiently until they have time for us. We can take our time to examine the car we've come for. Willem is standing next to the car with a man, carrying on a conversation of his own. He says the completely worn tires, with cracks down to the canvas, shouldn't be a problem. He himself explains that it's because the tire pressure is far too low. Under the hood is a sublimely beautiful sticker that says the timing belt was replaced five years ago. We're then allowed a test drive. Apparently, pumping up tires to be safe on the road isn't necessary... Without any form of identification, we get the keys and drive off. We take a short tour of the industrial estate and don't dare drive any further. The car pulls to the right. The engine runs smoothly and sounds good! We inspected the underside of the car and, to our surprise, there's no front-to-back driveshaft. It's clearly been removed. It is advertised as a 4x4 car. And as Willem told us several times next to the car: "A real ranger's car." We drive back and ask Willem how this car is 4x4-powered. He doesn't know exactly... When we tell him there's no front-to-back driveshaft, we're told the 4x4 is permanent. Apparently, Willem believes that permanent 4x4 drive doesn't require a drive shaft... But as the company itself states in the advertisement! "DON'T BE FOOLED!"
